Chuck had originally painted his wife's name on
the side of the X-1. Also note the "50th"
logo on the tails. This aircraft was eventually
sent to the 40th FLTS when the last of the F-15
testing was shifted to Eglin. |

used at China Lake in some sort of non-flight
capacity. |

to be kept in use and was eventually sent to what
is now VX-30 at NAS Point Mugu, to continue its
role as a drone launch aircraft. |

This aircraft is very interesting in that it was
one of the A-7D Corsairs that were being used
in the secret training of F-117 Pilots during
the "black" phase of the F-117 program.
The 4451st "Grim Reapers" or "P-Unit",
was based at Nellis AFB, and was activated in
9/81. A second unit designated the 4452nd TS or
"Q-Unit", was based at Tonopah. |
